Meet the Team

Dr Christopher Pantin, Dentist

Dentist Applecross Dr Christopher PantinChristopher graduated from the University of Western Australia (UWA) and first opened a practice in West Perth before founding The New Dentist. He was introduced to Dental Sleep Medicine in 1989 and began successfully treating patients with sleep-disordered breathing. He is an Associate Professor at UWA, having developed a Graduate Diploma in Dental Sleep Medicine.

The Applecross Village Dental Centre was acquired 15 years ago and leased to a corporate dental business (the polar opposite to our philosophy) until recently. When their lease expired, the premises were refurbished and re-equipped as a state-of-the-art facility. It was renamed The New Dentist to reflect its new fresh approach to holistic care.

In addition to Christopher’s expertise in CEREC restorations and implant treatment, he is a specialist in treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea. He has devoted the past 25 years to researching and treating this chronic medical disease with a dental solution. Find out more on the website.

Dr Valerie Bennett, Dentist

Dentist Applecross Dr Valerie BennettValerie graduated with honours as a dentist from the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1985. She worked in the Special Restorative Department at the Perth Dental Hospital alongside specialist prosthodontists and endodontists from 1985 to 1990. At the same time, she was a tutor for the undergraduate dentistry program at UWA. Valerie joined Christopher in private practice in 1991.

Valerie was one of the first graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Dental Sleep Medicine from the University of Adelaide and UWA in 2014 — the first program of its kind in the world.

She has membership in several organisations including the Australian Dental Association, Australasian Sleep Association and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and attends meetings annually both nationally and internationally.

She is looking forward to getting involved in research associated with Dental Sleep Medicine.

Dr Rachael Pantin, Dentist

Dentist Applecross Dr Rachael PantinRachael was introduced to dentistry at an early age and worked in all aspects of the practice: from assembling gift packs, sterilising equipment, working in reception and assisting the principal dentist.

After completing primary and secondary schooling at Penrhos College in Como, she moved to NSW and became a 2014 graduate of Charles Sturt University in Orange NSW with a Bachelor of Dental Science. This undergraduate programme was chosen for it’s practical clinical emphasis and almost half of the 5 year programme was spent treating patients in country placements across NSW.

Following graduation she returned to WA and worked as a dentist in Bunbury for 3 years and has now returned to where her exposure to the dentistry began.
Rachael has undergone additional post-graduate training including orthodontics using the Invisalign® system, CEREC restorations, and is currently undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Dental Sleep Medicine at UWA.

For Rachael, dentistry was chosen over other science-related professions because patient care centred over patient interaction and practical clinical skills, both of which she enjoys. Part of her ethos is that dental visits shouldn’t be a chore nor fearful, instead they should form part of a holistic approach to general wellbeing.

Outside the practice, Rachael enjoys training for open water swimming events such as the Rottnest Channel Swim and Ironman events. She is also a competent violinist and enjoys travel.

Dr Sara Bolton, Dentist

Applecross Dentist Dr Sara Bolton

Sara graduated as a dentist from The University of Newcastle upon Tyne, England in 1992 and worked both in NHS general practice and community dental services treating disadvantaged and anxious children and the elderly, before migrating to Australia in 1996.

Since then she has enjoyed a wide variety of dental experiences, ranging from general dentistry in public dental health services in Bunbury, to providing all aspects of dental care & dental public health as the sole dentist on Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands for 5 years, before moving into private practice in Perth in 2003.

During this time, Sara has had a family and gone on to post-graduate studies in health promotion and dental public health, and more recently explored her passion for holistic health, graduating in Naturopathy and Western Herbal Medicine in 2014.Read more…

Sara’s philosophy has always been to treat the whole person, realising the interplay between oral health and general health, whilst also acknowledging environmental, occupational, social, emotional & spiritual factors that may impact health and decision making.

Sara believes her job is to empower & educate you, providing you with as much information as you require and to discuss all available options, so that you are able to make an informed decision on your pathway of care.

She does not adhere to the ‘one size fits all’ philosophy and with her multi-faceted background brings to the table a well-rounded approach in the treatment of you as a unique individual.

Assisted by her long term dental assistant, Gail Baker, Sara enjoys treating patients of all ages – together they have created a cohesive, caring team, ensuring that patient care is at the centre of everything they do. Over the years Sara has converted many fearful, anxious and apprehensive patients into fearless, regular dental attenders. She has gained a following of loyal patients who continue to come to her for her understanding and respect.

Sara provides a wide range of treatment options (including the use of biocompatible dental materials, safe amalgam removal, implants and nitrous oxide sedation), but also works closely with several dental specialists who also regularly refer patients to her.

Sara is a member of the Australian Dental Association, the Australasian College of Nutritional & Environmental Medicine and the Australian Natural Therapists’ Association.

Outside of work, Sara’s passions are food, nutrition and the environment. She enjoys cooking and sharing recipes, and inspiring friends and family with new ideas. She loves the outdoors and yoga, walking and running.
